Today, Mette Ditmer's Design is a part of life in Europe, America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Mette Ditmer graduated from Business College before moving on to complete her export training in a large international company.

At the age of 24, Mette decided to make her dreams of self-employment become reality, setting up her glassware and faïence import business in June 1995.
In the beginning, the business was run out of a third floor apartment with a room in the basement serving as storage.
Hard work did not put off Mette who was prepared to build her business from scratch. Soon it became necessary to acquire larger premises to house the increasing activities.

The breakthrough came with Mette Ditmer's own designs in bath accessories, and within a short space of time she was able to drop the imported articles to concentrate exclusively on her own products.

It was a day of great joy when the first major chain of shops ordered Mette Ditmer's range of bath accessories for all its outlets. She completed the order and since then the company has experienced steady growth.

Soon, orders started to arrive from customers outside Denmark and in 2002 Mette Ditmer entered into a licensing agreement with Famous Home Fashions in Canada for the distribution rights in North America, and with Belgian Aquanova NV which took over the rights to sell and manufacture Mette Ditmer's designs in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

However, in 2006 Mette Ditmer terminated the Aquanova agreement to ensure focus on her own brand; since then, all sales activities in these markets have been conducted through Mette Ditmer Denmark A/S.

Today, Mette Ditmer and her husband Claus Bærnholdt are not just partners in marriage but also in business. They share overall responsibility with Mette Ditmer as the Managing Director of Mette Ditmer Design and Claus Bærnholdt as the Managing Director of Mette Ditmer Denmark A/S.
